I'm sure that when the newspaper came out, people were grumbling on about "oh, back in MY day we had to TELL eachother the news!" The only thing wrong with technology, in my opinion, is that kids really aren't getting the exercise that they need. That ties into parenting, though. If your kid is so focused on their iPad, take it away and tell them to ride a bike. technology is a wonderful thing that helps us connect and learn.

ALSO I hate it when adults talk about how we're always on our phones and stuff. who was it who made the technology we use today? Not the teenagers. it's you adults who create and purchase it for us as well.

I thought the discussion in class today was really interesting and I couldn't help but think about what it would be like having a discussion on this topic in 50+ years. When most people talk about technology now they can easily refer to a time in their lives when they didn't have computers and smartphones, but in 50 years most people will have grown up with those things. I wonder if someone who has grown up with technology would share the same views as someone who remembers a time without it.

Haha I disagree about the "being more disconnected than ever" thing... Like I have friends around the world that I met online and can see stuff like petitions and kickstarters from all kinds of countries. And even if people are using it for "narcissistic reasons" is there anything wrong with that? Remember back in the day, before cameras, when people would pay artists to paint their portraits? Nothing has changed, pal. It's just easier for the people who aren't as rich.

That's exactly what I was thinking! The author seems to think that technology has pushed us apart and negatively affected our society, and while there are certainly some bad things going on I think the world is more connected than ever!

As well I really disliked the line "And I pray we may stitch our world back together" Personally I feel our world, at least compared to what it was in the past, is at a pretty great place. I'm not sure what the speaker feels 'broke' our world in such a way we need to stitch it back together.
